CP-EHW System

Type CP-EHW – propeller system with controllable pitch propeller

The WM CP-EHW(S), propeller system is a controllable pitch propeller system that are used on standard gearboxes without servo inside the gearbox. (S)  is for sailing yacht with fully feathering propeller or other vessels that wish to have fully feathered propellers.

The pitch is controlled/adjusted by a mechanical unit connected to the propeller hub by a rod inside the propeller shaft. Transmission inside the propeller hub allows the propeller blades to have pitch setting from reverse to design pitch + some extra pitch. For the smaller systems, less than 40 mm shaft it is not possible with both feathering propeller and reverse.

Basic control system is a leaver with a hydraulic valve and a potentiometer for actual pitch setting. Signals are compared and the hydraulic valve open/close for pitch adjustment to these signals. More advanced control systems can be connected to control the pitch up to including DPP.

Since there is no need for direct mounting to the gearbox it can have a flexible coupling between the gearbox and the propeller system. Normally the system is then fitted with a thrust bearing and a thrust bracket.

The WM CP-EHW(S) system is not recommended for vessels that need a very quick response and makes a lot of manoeuvring all day long. In those cases we recommend the CP-HE system.

The big advantage with the WM CP-EHW(S) is that the pitch setting is self-locking in all positions which makes it ideal for sailing vessels where there is no hydraulics available during sailing and it is not necessary to monitor the pitch setting during sailing. There is no need for a shaftbrake either since the feathering position prevent the shaft from rotating.

The WM CP-EHW(S) can also be used as a fixed pitch propeller system if all controls “crashes” at remote places where it is difficult to get assistance.

The propeller system can be fitted for almost all applications and power sources. It can also be delivered with the CP-unit in front of the gearbox for gearboxes with that option.

The WM CP-EHW(S) system is delivered with 25-100 mm shaft diameter, and 3 or 4 blades, and is designed for simple and easy maintenance at a low cost.
